Josiah Tansur, was born in South Kilworth, Leicestershire, in 1846 and christened on 11 Oct 1847 in South Kilworth, Leicestershire, the fifth son of Don and Mary Tansur.

Josiah moved from South Kilworth and in 1861 is recorded as living at Adderley Street, Aston, working as a servant in the household of William Wilkes.

Mary Ann Mallett was born in Lichfield, Staffordshire and was christened in Rugeley, Staffordshire, on 17 Apr 1844.  Mary was the daughter of James Mallett and Martha (née Ashley).

In 1871 Josiah and Mary were living at 44 Lower Hunt Street, Birmingham.  At this time Josiah was working as a Fruiterer having previously worked as a Butcher's Assistant.

By 1881 Josiah (a General Labourer) and Mary had moved to 48 Gopsall Street, Aston, Warwickshire, where they were living with two of Mary's brothers:  Thomas (a Stoker, aged 24) and Jonathan (a Bricklayer's Labourer, aged 21) and two boarders:  Charles Priest (Fruiterer, aged 28 from Stratford) and Harry Priest (Butcher, aged 20 from Stratford).

In 1891 Josiah's occupation is recorded as being a Market Porter and he was living with Mary at 24 Coleshill Street, Birmingham, with his neice Sarah Fieldhouse and five lodgers.

Mary Ann Tansur died in Birmingham in 1895 and Josiah died four years later, also in Birmingham, in 1899, aged 53 years.

 

 * Mary Ann Mallett was the daughter of James and Martha Mallet.  James and Martha Ashley married in Rugeley, Staffordshire, on 5 Aug 1841.

In addition to Mary, Thomas and Jonathan, James and Martha also had another son, Henry christened 1 Dec 1850 and daughter, Elizabeth Ellen Mallet who was christened on 16 Oct 1842, both in Rugeley.

Prior to marrying Josiah, in 1851 Mary is recorded as living with her parents and siblings Elizabeth and Henry at Loyalty Court, Horse Fair, Rugeley, Staffordshire.
